Yes, The World is Insane

(Source)
But in truth, it's always been that way. Since Cain slew Abel, since the first time one man seized by force another man's land or possessions, since the first man killed another for no apparent reason at all, death and ruin have stalked the innocent. People who are outside of the law and normal society have always existed.

The shootings in Las Vegas, the recent attacks in Canada and France, the list of man's inhumanity to man is a long and bloody one. It's not always some random asshole with some imagined beef with the world.

Sidebar: While on the topic of random assholes with a hair across their butts, there should never ever be mention of the perpetrator's name, that's part of what motivates them, to be famous (though infamous is more accurate). Usually the perpetrator kills themselves or commits suicide by cop. Once the dust has settled, burn the perpetrator's body and cast the ashes into the nearest river in the dead of night. Erase them from all public records, make it as though they had never existed.

But that's just me.

The world has always been more or less insane, those who want power over others, those who claim to "know better" always seek to impose their will on others.

Rome was powerful and vast. Until the barbarians from the steppes overran the empire and sacked Rome itself.

After the Huns, Goths, and others of that ilk came the Mongols of Genghis Khan. Burning, killing, stealing as they went.

Imagine trying to raise enough food to feed your family while marauding bands of bloodthirsty bastards roam the land.

Even in ancient times murderers and thieves would kill and take that which the marauding foreigners hadn't taken already. There were no police to protect the populace, only the army, to protect the State.

Things can be horrible in these modern times, but they have been worse in the past. Beware the politicians who seek to create new laws to "fix" things. One cannot fix an evil soul. They will always find a way. The politicos should seek to enforce existing law, not make new ones which will only be ignored by the criminal element.

Don't hamstring the police, make the courts punish the criminals when they are found guilty. No more light sentences, parole, or any of the other things which don't deter the true criminal one iota. Enforce the laws we have, punish the guilty.

For the moment we don't have armed bands of marauders roaming the land. But don't think it can't happen here. Because it can.

It has not been a great month so far. I found out that a man I worked with some 12 years ago, a fellow I learned a lot from, died. Two years ago and I just found out after mentioning his name to another coworker.

I found out that another former coworker, a retired Navy man, lost his beloved wife back in July. A much respected man, we often traded jibes about our respective services.

The terrorist attacks in Canada and France. The shootings in Las Vegas. The death of a fine musician.

Hard on the heels of all that, the deaths of two fine young men of the Naval Service. Lost in the crash of their T-45 Goshawk in the wilds of Tennessee. I have many friends in Naval aviation, it was a rough 36 hours waiting to hear who it was. We found out Tuesday afternoon.

First the relief that it wasn't someone you know, then comes the guilt because somewhere, two families get that dreaded knock on the door from the casualty notification team.

For far too many families around the world, the weeks and months ahead will be filled with the howling emptiness of loss.

Pray for them.

  1. Earlier this year I found out that three of my co-workers from where I had retired from had passed, not all at once for them.....talk about body blows. Prayers have been sent. Just because things have been a certain way doesn't mean they'll continue that way...check your six...... evil walks.

  2. So awful.
...I've been walking around in the kind of hushed silence one feels when the snow is falling.

    1. Just something I wanted to say. With all that's been going on, I couldn't really write about something else.

      Thanks for understanding.

  4. I find it difficult to comment because of a heavy heart

  5. "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9) As a country we have turned our backs on God, spurned anything that would remind us of our God who created us, ridiculed prayer in schools and government, publicly announced (Pres. Obama) that we are not a Christian nation. Is it any wonder that we are experiencing such evil in the USA?
To expect that Democrats or Republicans can pass laws that will make evil disappear is ridiculous.

  6. I am walking around furtively, waiting for the next move on Evil's part. What am I scared of? The Legistaturists. That's what scares me. Already, on both state and federal levels, there are enough laws on the book to bury someone for farting wrong, let alone any of the legion of gun laws. Yet, already, the Hearing Protection Act has been withdrawn. One bit of good in a sea of bad laws, and it was swept away by 'our representatives' because, feelings.

Evil also exists from other sources. Rome fell because its citizens (a legal and financial title) and its denizens stopped wanting to serve to protect the state, while the legislaturists drew down monies to keep the legions active (preferring, like some today, to pay the enemy to not be the enemy. That worked well for Rome, didn't it?)

And, my heart is sad, and heavy, for the innocent loss of life. One expects servicemembers to be faced with death, daily. Wars, and the machines and methods for waging war, are deadly. But to shoot at a concert? Attacking civilian targets? What savage and inhuman mind did it take to do such?

And, now, we must do as Americans have done before. Wipe our eyes, pick up ourselves, and stand against the evils of the world, both internally and externally. May God have mercy on us all, and may all of the fallen, in war and in peace, sit at their rightful places in the afterlife.

Yes, yes we do. They wear uniforms, carry badges and call themselves "law enforcement". The police are not there to protect the citizens, their only purpose is to protect and enrich the state.

    1. Well, you open an interesting can of worms with that comment. While I have friends in law enforcement, who might beg to differ with your characterization of the law dogs, I do understand where you're coming from.

There are good cops and there are bad cops. I really believe that the former outnumber the latter, and I might be naive on that count, but certainly in some areas, for certain skin shades, that is, sadly, not always the case.

Let's just say that there are areas in the country where the police are not your friends. They seem to be there to enhance the local revenue and not pursue and detain criminals. After all, speeding tickets raise money, prosecuting criminals costs money. An interesting dichotomy that.

This topic would make an interesting post. I need to think on that.

Provocative, but interesting, comment Chris. Made me think.
